Mr. SP Cooks Lunch

Last Friday I picked up Mr. SP from kindergarten and he enthusiastically told me that he would be in charge of making his own lunch.  “Really?”  I asked.  “What are you going to make?”

“Oh, I’ll just look around the refrigerator and find my own ingredients.  Don’t worry about me a bit.”

He was so terribly happy about the idea that I just went with it.  His winter attire was taken off and put away immediately upon arriving back home, and he went right for the refrigerator and freezer, pulling out all sorts of things he likes.  He spread it all over the counter and then told me he needed the blender.  The blender?  I announced firmly that I would be the person running the blender, thank you very much.

“Well, then can I at least dump the stuff in the blender?”

OK.  Dump away he did:  raspberry jam, frozen strawberries, apple juice, apple sauce, and about 40 grapes.  I convinced him not to include the stem and that the slice of ham he was eyeing would really do better if it weren’t blended.  It was smoothies, sliced ham and some cheese for lunch.  The Banana and Mr. Sneaky Pants were thrilled.  It’s funny how exciting and happy control over what you are eating can make you.  I think we take that for granted in adulthood.
