Neighborhood Caroling and Household Cookie Baking

I’ve been wanting to go Christmas caroling up and down my street for years.  Dr. Peds put the kabosh on it.  He believes Christmas caroling is stressful, awkward and just plain wrong! Of course, I disagree.  Christmas caroling is actually one of the very few things about Christmas I actually do like!  So, I rallied, and found some neighbor friends who were all for caroling.  I spent the afternoon baking some Christmas cookies to deliver at houses up and down the street, assisted by enthusiastic helpers.  Peer pressure precipitated the participation of Dr. Peds after all (although I would not entirely call him an enthusiastic caroler).  We set off around 6:30 with a gaggle of energetic kids and most of us had a fantastic time and were greeted by smiles in doorways.  We returned to our house an hour later and fed all children involved large amounts of sugar.  Excellent.  I have plans for next year already.

I love caroling! Our church in Towner used to go caroling – and it seems to me it was freezing cold. I’m sure we didn’t call it off on account of weather! It made the shut-ins and elderly people we visited so happy, it wasn’t at all awkward! The best part for the kids was getting back to the church for cookies and hot chocolate! Carol on, my friend!
