  • Someone needs to take care of The Banana’s harp while she is at college, so I am learning the harp! Figuring out the right hand position and finger motions has been challenging, but I’m excited to learn something new! There has been a lot of “Twinkle, Twinkle” happening.
  • Along the same lines, I learned to replace harp strings. Tricky business.
  • Prayer plants can go dormant and look like they are completely dead, and then resurrect themselves into lush new masterpieces! I almost threw my plant out, because it looked completely toasted, but by chance I kept the pot in the mudroom and forgot about it, and one day there were a bunch of brand new leaves even though the thing was utterly neglected. It looks great now!
  • At the library I was paging through a children’s book about world history and learned all about stepped wells in India. I had no idea about these masterpieces. I have to remember not to take water for granted. Throughout history and through so many cultures, obtaining water was such a significant part of living.
  • I asked some questions about baseball fields, and Mr. TOF told me all about how every outfield can have a different dimension and shape. Until now I just assumed that there was a standard measurement for the shape and distance, and that they were symmetrical.
  • I learned about propagating dracaena plants. I’m loving my plant identification app. It’s such a gateway to all sorts of plant information.
  • At the piano I learned a new movement of a Grieg Sonata and a short piece by Granados. In progress I have a short Capriccio by Brahms and a little Intermezzo by Sibelius, along with finishing my long summer project of a lengthy movement from a well-known Beethoven sonata.
