100 Steps Out the Back Door

Last Friday I was inspired by this post on Shutter Sisters.  It's hard not to get stuck in a picture taking rut during the month of February and the early part of March.  We are stuck inside most days, and we have been for weeks and weeks, and really, a person feels like she's run out of things to say about indoor activities at this point in the winter. Of course, that's just a perception, an unwillingness to look creatively, but it seems to be my prevalent feeling lately.

So, during that frenzy of beach activity (a ruckus that lasted all weekend which I documented via videocamera, because still pictures did not do justice to the COLD SNAP ROCK BAND, who performs while wearing swimwear) I put on my nice furry winter boots and my lovely winter coat and took my camera for a 100 step walk out the back door.

When I had walked 100 steps, I looked around and realized I was in the middle of my street in a pile of dirty snow.  February.  Go figure.  Actually there wasn't as much dirty snow as usual because the night before it had been covered up with several inches of blinding white snow, which I like much better.  The new white snow added to the already large snowplow piles along the street, and it was glittering in the setting sun.  I took a picture of it, because I'm sure it won't stay white and glittery for long next to the sloppy street.

The picture really didn't capture the white and glittery part of the snow, but that's OK.  I like the colors in the image anyway.

Lo and behold though, I walked a few more steps, and I found this stem on my lilac bush that looks like it is thinking of thinking about the possible, probably-still-far-off approach of spring.
