Music Class Mornings

I am so excited that one of my music class families gave me these pictures, because, of course, I can't take pictures when I'm singing and dancing!  We just started a new session of music and movement classes at both of assisted living centers last week.  This time all the music is about transportation, and we've been having a great time working on the railroad and driving our trains on it.  It is just so fun to see so many happy kids and senior citizens all in the same place. EVERYONE should teach music class! It is just a riot.

This picture is my very favorite, because if you look carefully in the corner, next to the door, you will see one of my favorite grandma friends, who is one of the first people in the room EVERY WEEK.  Her name is Regina, and she and The Banana have the funniest conversations.  The grandma loves to ask The Banana questions, because she knows The Banana loves to say "no!" Back and forth they go, and Regina usually ends up in a fantastic fit of giggles.  Regina knows almost all the kids by name, and she always has a big smile on her face.  She's usually laughing at their antics.

Yesterday, when I got to class at the first assisted living center, there was a substitute activity coordinator, who had an extremely vivacious personality!  She rounded up all kinds of senior citizens to come in and they had so much fun.  After class, all the families left, and all the senior citizens stayed in their comfy chairs.  In the corner of the room was a large beach ball, which The Banana had noticed, and the activities coordinator asked if she'd like to see the grandma friends play soccer with the ball.  She kicks the beach ball toward the senior citizens in their chairs, and they kick it back and the ball bounces all around the room.  The Banana thought this was the best game she'd ever seen, so she stood in the middle of the open circle and kicked the beach ball toward different grandma and grandpas, squealing and laughing and hopping around!  The grandma and grandpas absolutely LOVED her.  (She completely charms their socks off, even when she misbehaves.)  They played soccer for almost a half an hour!  Everyone had so much fun.  I was so incredibly glad to watch.  It was really a special moment.  Not many little kids get to play soccer with 25 grandma and grandpas over age 70.  She loves being the center of attention, that tyke.

My grandma just went to the nursing home last summer – you make me wish she was in Duluth instead of Cando. BUT, I have a friend teaching music with a group of children and maybe she’d be interested in taking it to the nursing home. You always have such wonderful ideas Rachel!
