A Dogsled Ride on a Sunday Afternoon

Dogsledding is a big deal where I live.  I never really anticipated living in a place where dogsledding would be a big deal, but the fever for it this time of year is quite contagious.  (There was a very big and important dogsled race throughout Northern Minnesota that started and ended near my house last week).  Loving most things "winter,"  I have been a bit intrigued.

On Sunday we attended a social event for newer employees of Dr.Peds workplace, where kids got to visit with a team of horses that pull a sleigh, snowshoe, and go right up to a real dog sled team and see how it all worked.  The kidlets were pretty enraptured.  The Banana loves puppies anyway, and Mr. Sneaky Pants absorbed huge quantities of information about how to steer a dog sled and how the dogs worked together.  Sarah even got to ride on the rails of the beautiful dogsled with the musher.  We were some of the last people to venture over to the dogs, so our kids got an extra ride back to the horse trailer and truck, and even got to give all the dogs a treat for doing such a good job.  They were so excited.

Dogsleds move FAST!  Wow.  And those dogs are antsy!  They barely manage to stop moving, and they are just ready to go ALL the time.  I was surprised about how much attention they needed all the time, constantly.  It would be an interesting life to live with and care for 80 to 100 of those dogs like the mushers do.

The Banana and Sarah tried snowshoeing for the first time also, and they loved it.  The Banana did great tromping around in her extra big feet.
