Silly

Be assured, my dear readers, that there is no end to the number of silly faces this girl can make.  Making crazy faces, pestering her big brother and sister, singing songs wherever she goes . . . this is what makes The Banana’s wheels turn.  She is having a busy week.  Each morning she’s been at the nature center for a camp about animal babies.  She’s been waiting all summer for her special activity week.  At the beginning of the summer each kidlet got to choose one special class or activity week, and The Banana picked animal baby camp at the nature center.  She likes animals.  She likes babies.  But most of all, she likes places to go and people to see and things to do.  Every day she comes back with tales of her adventures.  While she’s not always a big fan of hiking, she is a big fan of playing games and eating snack and every single day she tells me about the new friends she has made.  Today she got to touch a snake and salamander.  She loved it.  Yesterday she got to go shopping at the little store in the nature center.  She really, really loved taking her own money and shopping.  She had a delightful time even though before she left that morning she was convinced that her whole class was getting on a bus to go shopping at the grocery store . . . no matter how I explained that the store was in the nature center, I just didn’t have very much credibility.

Each evening she’s been off to swimming lessons, which she adores.  Last night the three big kidlets ran running races at Wednesday Night at the Races right before swimming lessons.  It was our first Wednesday Night at the Races experience.  The kidlets are hooked.  The Banana ran halfway around the track at the university in the four years old and under division.  Of course, The Banana is tall, and strangely coordinated, which means that she can really run quickly without really trying very hard, and she came across the finish line quite a long distance ahead of all the other little girls.  Unfortunately she came across the finish line with tears streaming down her face because she had a side ache that developed halfway through the race.  Obviously it didn’t slow her down, although it would have been just fine if she had come in at the end of the pack.  When the ache dissipated she was quite taken with her ribbon and can’t wait for next week.

Every afternoon when she could be napping, The Banana is finding some way to wiggle and squirm and move herself from one location to the next even though she’s not supposed to be so that she can be sure that she won’t let herself fall into a deep slumber.  This kind of drives me crazy, but I do have to say that she is asleep for the night within minutes of her head getting cozy on her pillow.

Now my darling daughter, you were the queen of not taking naps after you turned 2 1/2, so it she doesn’t think she needs one at the age of 4 1/2 she probably does not need them. You just want a little quiet time, right? and what Mom does not want and NEED that. Let her roam and amuse herself for an hour.

It’s not that she isn’t sleeping at nap. Most of the time she hasn’t slept for many months, its the ROAMING that can be frustrating. She’s so social she can’t roam and do things alone, she has to roam and tell me about them. Silly kid. I just want her to play by herself for a bit.

Rachel, I have had a marvelous afternoon catching up on your blog. I found another favorite. Hannah`s songs in the van. I even called Amy to laugh with her about it. How the boys complained about her singing all the time:) I love all your wonderful pictures. Thank you for loving your children so much! Thanks for letting all of us shair in the fun.
