Halloween Part One: Princess Chicken The Ballerina

I believe I’ve mentioned before how The Banana has her own ideas about wardrobe choice.  In our house, we use our Halloween costumes year round for dressing up.  At the beginning of fall I was rummaging around in the attic and came across Mr. Sneaky Pants’ old chicken costume.  Because he was so scared and upset about the chicken costume in his toddler years, I packed it away in a box shortly after Halloween.  How disappointing that he just didn’t like the outfit.  He loved chickens at the time, and that’s why I had so carefully picked it out and splurged  to purchase it.

It turns out, in the divine plan of things, however, that The Banana fell completely and utterly in love with the chicken costume from the first time she laid eyes on it.  From the start, she insisted on wearing it with her tutu, which looks so ridiculous that you can’t help but to giggle until your tummy hurts.  Sarah and Mr. Sneaky Pants loved seeing her waddle around with the chicken costume on her upper half and the tutu on her bottom half, and begged for her to wear it for her Halloween costume.  She happily obliged.

At one point in the afternoon on Halloween, the Banana accessorized the ensemble with a pair of groovy blue owl sunglasses, causing her siblings to scream in delight that she was a rockstar chicken.

Needless to say, she brought delight to a lot of people this Halloween:  to the residents at the assisted living complex at music class, to fellow trick or treaters, and to the houses we visited on our street at night.  There was much giggling.  The Banana was very into trick-or-treating.  She marched up to every house with zest, with gusto right along with the other kids in our group, and carefully held out her bag politely with a big grin on her face as they dropped the candy in.  She loves treats so much; I’m sure in her mind she was thinking, “This is quite the deal!  All I have to do is tote along this little bag people drop stuff right in!”
