A Cheerful Goodbye to the Hot Tub

My three nieces and their parents came to visit for the weekend.  The main purpose of the visit was for them to extract the hot tub out of its little gazebo enclosure that's not really a gazebo at all, and cart it off to Iowa.  You see, a hot tub came with our house last year when we bought it.  Dr. Peds and I aren't really hot tub people.  We never envisioned owning one.  We don't have the time and patience to take care of one, we felt nauseous at the thought of paying the utility bills to keep the hot tub running,  and there is a high likelihood that one of our children would somehow crawl into the hot tub and drown.  So, we told several members of our family that if they wanted a free hot tub, they just had to come and get it.  Greg's brother Bryan and his wife, Amy, took us up on the offer.  We were thrilled.

Despite the fact that our children insisted that they would not drown in the hot tub all weekend, (I don't know that they really noticed that we had a hot tub until we started moving it) Bryan, Dr. Peds, and our backyard neighbor, Jim, who noticed the amazing ordeal that was  taking place a few feet from his house, managed to load the hot tub onto the trailer.  It turns out that hot tubs are heavy.  About 800 pounds heavy.  It was amazing to watch Bryan his assistants problem solve and move the monstrous thing with a system of boards that acted as levers and pullies that they rigged up to the actual hot tub building.  In a mere three hours on a very hot summer afternoon, they had fully accomplished the task.  Amy helped with a little pushing and balancing now and then.  I successfully kept all six kids from getting squished under the hot tub and moved some boards every once in a while to brace the wheel of the trailer.

Woowee!  Do we have storage space now!  I have lots of fun stories and pictures to share about my nieces.  You'll see them soon.

So we got home a little before midnight and I thought to myself “I wonder how this weekend will turn out in a story on Rachel’s blog,” so I thought I would check before I went to bed….and low and behold there it is! We had a great time visiting! Thanks for the hot tub!
