I Think We Need to Practice

ShoetieOn Saturday, in an effort to be independent and helpful, Sarah tried tying her shoes when she got out of the van to go to the bathroom before our family went hiking.  Unfortunately, as you may be able to tell from the photograph, she miscalculated and tied two wrong strings.  She ended up with two shoes attached to each other, and that made her extremely frustrated, so she yanked them apart as hard as she could.  Yanking made the knots strong.  Tight.  Her father and I decided to laugh rather than cry. After ten minutes of poking the knot and stretching the strings with a knife while her sibling were screaming at the top of their lungs we managed to extract one shoe from the other so that this girl could join us on the trail.

Considering that her gym shoes for first grade are regular tie shoes, I think we have a little work to do on the art of tying.
