Sledding in the Yard

We had barely any snow all year, but this week we got two feet!  The first big snowfall came with the blizzard last Wednesday, when show fell fast and furious and whipped around like the best of any blizzard.  We were very excited about that, but on Friday we started getting a bit of lake effect snow on top of the other snow.  We were only supposed to get an inch or so (we don’t get as much lake effect snow as the south shore of Lake Superior gets).  But it just didn’t stop coming down! It snowed all night and all day the next day and all the next night and most of the next morning!  The snow was super beautiful powder, big flakes just steadily dropping from the sky in a lazy fashion.  The trees were amazingly gorgeous flocked in white.  It was like a wonderland, and the kidlets were out playing in it as much as possible.

On Saturday, after a bit of sledding down the front lawn, across the sidewalk and up the snow wall created by the plow, we spotted our neighbors half way down the street, who were out cross country skiing down the middle of the street.  They hopped out of their skis and joined the Mason Madness of zipping down that short but fast little hill.

Dr. Peds tried sledding right down the street at one point.

Mr. Trouble on Feet watched the action from the safety of his own sled, parked out of harm’s way.

Mr. SP had some issues with tailgating, until someone tailgated him and they landed in a powdery crash.

Dr. Peds gained a bit too much momentum and went flying over the snow wall from the plow and landed on the other side in the middle of the street.

It was a perfect winter day, and we actually had these friends back later for more sledding, and the neighbors up the hill over the next evening for sledding, but I have no pictures of those times because I was off to sing in a chorale concert.
