Overheard

Because The Banana has been battling a nasty something (virus? teething?  I’m not sure what . . . but it’s really putting her under the weather) I was not able to attend my usual Wednesday Bible Study today.  That turned out fine, because Dr. Peds was flying to Denver to a conference, and I needed to take him to the air port at what would have been the middle of Bible Study.  Instead, we all got to spend a little extra time relaxing with him before our jaunt over to the airport.  We got up and headed down to the Farmers Market so I could buy cucumbers and massive quantities of strawberries to turn into jam.  When we loaded everything into the car, we remarked that it was such beautiful morning, we might as well head over to a rocky beach to let the kids scramble about for a few minutes.  (The Banana has been doing better today, so we felt fine about taking her to the beach, but not so fine about putting her in the church nursery where she could easily spread the wealth of whatever she has).

We decided the closet beach was actually the Secret Beach, a little secluded gem that we hadn’t ever taken the kids to.  It is such a neat place.  And of course, our children can’t spend more than about six minutes at any beach before they are soaked to the bone, and this was no exception.  They were wading, climbing, tossing rocks, and having a terrific time exploring.  It was the perfect morning, and we all wanted to stay all day, but couldn’t.

At one point, however, I heard this conversation between Mr. Sneaky Pants and Sarah, both of whom were knee deep in the lake:

Mr. Sneaky Pants:  (In a most excited voice) Look!  Look Sarah! My feet are waterproof!  They really are!

Sarah:  EVERYONE’S feet are waterproof.

So there you have it.  If you need something to do on a warm summer morning, check to see if your feet too, might be waterproof.  Our resident expert predicts they will be.

A further note:  I know I talk about how much I love the weather here in Northern Minnesota, but let me give you an example.  So far this summer we have had only ONE day that the temperature climbed over 80 degrees (that would be the day I got heatstroke).  It is almost the end of July, and our typical temperature is still in the 60’s or lower 70’s if the  sun is shining.  The temperature here today:  67 degrees, sunny, calm and perfect.  The temperature in Denver where my lovely husband flew into:  97 degrees.  Ahhhhhhh.  How I love Lake Superior and it’s natural air conditioning.  If we were living in Wisconsin, it would be 86, with about 96 percent humidity.
