That Cool Refreshing Water

Because sunshine and 62 degrees truly does feel like the middle of summer in Northern Minnesota, (we don’t see that kind of weather regularly until July, usually) Sarah and Mr. Sneaky Pants were begging to wear summer attire, and I let them. And when we were at the bottom of the little canyon on our hike, they looked at me out of the corner of their eyes and carefully stuck their sneakers in the water. And I let them, because our sneakers are free hand-me-downs or cost 75 cents at the thrift store. And there’s nothing like a cool refreshing stream in the middle of a long warm hike. And I fully understand how tempting that water is. They had a wonderful time doing a little wading, and then a not so wonderful time hiking two or three miles back up the hill in soggy tennis shoes. There’s nothing like the lessons of experience, right?
