Celebrating St. Patricks Day with Irish Cousins

Irish heritage is a VERY big deal in my husband’s family. St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated with many clean green festivities. Our morning was peppered with Irish soda bread, green pancakes, green milk, crazy green attire, and loud boisterous celtic music blasting from the CD player in the corner on the kitchen counter. And we were able to share these fun and exciting moments with our fantastic Irish cousins from Iowa who are here visiting for a few days.

Here is EVERYONE in the kitchen at one time, cooking breakfast, except for me. I was in the next room with the camera, of course.

The Banana insisted on wearing her red galoshes with her pink footed fleece sleeper to breakfast. Never fear. She did not get pinched because her diaper was a beautiful shade of mint green. In the background you might notice some Irish jig dancing.

It was hard waiting for all the green pancakes to cook. Very hard. Torture. Or so I was repeatedly told by the seven and under crowd. The Banana passed the time by carrying around a green cup filled with imaginary tasty items that she tried to feed to anyone who might be interested. She managed to find a little chocolate to tide her over as well, the evidence of which is clear on her face.

Dr. Peds cooked up a batch of fancy green tinted pancakes complete with ultra rich chocolate sauce and special flamed strawberries. (For the record, I had my pancakes plain . . . they are so tasty by themselves, but the chocolate sauce was a huge hit with the small fans, as you might have guessed.) The green cutlery and dishes were sent to Minnesota especially for the celebration by Grandma Kathy.

There was a nice round of Irish sword fighting at the breakfast table while the last pancakes were cooking.

This was the line for a second helping of green pancakes.
