The Oregano Stretches

Inspired by my friend Kristell, who served fresh oregano from her backyard on baked potatoes when we visited her in Montana last year, at the beginning of the growing season last spring I planted two pots of herbs:  oregano and rosemary, which happen to be my two favorite seasonings.  Not that I like very many seasonings, actually.  But I do enjoy rosemary and oregano.  All summer long I ate potatoes with oregano and baked rosemary bread with fresh rosemary.  Yummy!

When it came time for the frost, I couldn’t bear to give up my fresh herbs, and I decided to bring them inside until they were used up.  The oregano is mostly gone, but what is left is stretching spindly stems toward the window.  I’ll probably eat it all up on my next baked potato.

I will definitely be planting more oregano and rosemary next spring, and I’m enjoying memories of summer on these late autumn days.
