Regarding Personal Hygiene

In our house there are mandatory showers on Sunday mornings and Wednesday mornings.  This morning The Banana was standing in the kitchen debating about what hairstyle she’d like for kindergarten.  She asked for princess braids. To make princess braids I braid the sides of her hair and join them in the back, while most of her hair falls long.  The braids kind of look like a crown.  I said that we probably should wait for Wednesday for princess braids, since her hair needed to be wet to braid that way.

In the dining room Mr. Sneaky Pants looked up from his bowl of oatmeal in consternation.

Mr. SP:  Are you serious!  Do I really have to take another shower on Wednesday morning too.  I just TOOK a shower yesterday, and between Sunday and Wednesday is only FOUR days!

Me:  Yes.  You take a shower on Sunday and Wednsday at the very least.

Mr. SP:  WHY??!!??  I don’t need a shower.

Me:  Honey, you get smelly.  Very smelly.  And that is the truth.  Most people take showers every day or every other day, so I think you should consider yourself pretty lucky that you have a mother negligent enough to only require showers on Sundays and Wednesdays.

Mr. SP:  Well, I just don’t see the point.  What’s wrong with being a little smelly?

Me:  Other people don’t really want to smell you.  You need clean clothes every day.  You need to wash your body and hair often so that it smells fresh and sweet, like shampoo.

Mr. SP:  What ARE you, a commercial?????

Oh, this child is so funny. What is it with boys they just hate to take a bath and I can’t stand it if I don’t get mine everyday, and in the summer twice. Tell him he has to be nice and sweet for gramma when she gets there.

I love this boy! Just wait until he is a teenager. Then remind him of this day. I’ll hug him clean or smelly. I”ll just hold my nose:)
