Getting the Christmas Trees: 2012

We were super duper excited that Grandma Robbie and Grandpa Ron were visiting the weekend of the Christmas Tree Cut.  Although Grandma Robbie was slightly apprehensive of going on a cold adventure, in the end she had a great time.  I knew she would be an excellent hunter of the perfect tree, and that’s exactly how it worked!  She and The Banana went tromping all over off the beaten path!  Dr. Peds and Mr. SP did a great job of chopping and sawing and hauling out trees.

It was warm, but drizzly and foggy in the forest.  Everyone was a bit soggy by the time we left, but I love fog and drizzle, so I was happy.  It might have been even better to have had snowflakes falling instead of raindrops, but everyone’s feet stayed nice and warm!

Mr. TOF loved hanging out with Grandpa Ron.  Since they hiked at about the same pace, they brought up the end of the caravan through the woods.  The Banana convinced Grandma to pull her sled.  Mr. Trouble on Feet ate most of Grandpa Ron’s cup of chili, and insisted on pulling his own “tree” in his sled on the way out.  All the other boys in the family, either big or little were dragging trees or sleds with logs, so it was very important for him to be included.  I walked with him out of the forest and it took us 17 times longer than the rest of the crew, but Mr. TOF pulled that sled full of branches the whole way out by himself.

Before loading the van we had cookies and cocoa and some people had a little more chili.  I picked out a table top tree that I really, really love to go along with the two big trees, and then we loaded up the van.  It was a vehicle packed with trees, sleds, saws, and full to capacity with people.

The trees are up and decorated and look crazy and wild.  Most of the ornaments are clunked together in one place, a decorating style available only in houses with children.  It makes me giggle.  When we hung ornaments, Mr. TOF just wanted to decorate the tree with plain hooks, and The Banana, misunderstanding my instruction that all the heavy ornaments needed to go (on branches) near the trunk of the tree put all the heavy ornaments on the floor next to the trunk of the tree, which makes a lot of sense when you think about it.
