Birthday Party Anticipation

Sarah was invited to a birthday party for one of the girls in her kindergarten class. This was a very, very big deal. It was so important she could hardly eat her lunch. Sarah spent an hour and a half waiting in the “cabin room” with her present for Sofia all ready to go, dressed to the nines in her new cupcake dress that she’d been saving specifically for the party on Saturday (because cupcake dresses just go with birthday parties, you know). It was hard to watch her watching the clock, barely able to keep herself together as the second had ticked around the mechanical face oh so very, very slowly.

But finally it was time to go, and I drove her up the road a few blocks and dropped her off at Sofia’s house. What a crazy place! Many, many kindergarten girls running around like maniacs, having a most splendid time. Some parents just have it so together to be able to pull off a magnificent party like that. When I picked her up two hours later she was full of detailed stories, and fun party treasures like the crown you see her wearing in the bottom picture, glittery bangle bracelets, fun plastic beaded necklaces, purple sunglasses, and a bag full of treats. She was in such a great mood she even shared a piece of candy and her somewhat large blue plastic inflatable guitar with her thrilled brother, who runs around singing and dancing with the guitar, proclaiming that he’s a rockstar. (He wouldn’t even wear his pants today until I could convince him that they were the kind of pants a ROCKSTAR wears.) I haven’t managed to capture any rockstar pictures yet, but I’m working on it. Or at least I will be working on it when the blue plastic inflatable guitar comes down from its exile on to top of the refrigerator, where it has recently been sent to because of some cooperation problems this morning.
