Tropical Winter Weather

It has been bone chilling cold. So cold, in fact, that I turned up the heat to 60 degrees to compensate for the lack of insulation in our house. On Sunday morning, when it got well below -20 degrees outside, our normal thermostat settings just weren’t cutting it, and I didn’t want to deal with any kind of frozen plumbing like last year. Even with the heater on higher, there were still some frigid drafts around. Greg and I had to put on our very warmest socks and cozy sweaters, and even then we wanted to walk around with a blanket wrapped around us. But, ironically, all of our children picked this very most cold day of the year to dress in their swimsuits. Yes, their swimsuits. No socks. No pants. No shirts. Nothing but tropical swimsuits. ALL day! In fact, Mr. Sneaky Pants threw such a fit when it was bed time and time to put on warm jammies . . . you wouldn’t even believe it. They pretended that the carpet was their swimming pool and were jumping and twisting in the water. At one point we put a thermometer down by the floor where they were playing and it read 43 degrees. I’m not kidding.

Here you can see the swimmer and the butterfly. Sarah had briefly removed her swimsuit in exchange for a butterfly costume with tights, but shortly thereafter went back to swimming.

I laughed because our kids played “beach” all day on Sunday – they too were in their swimsuits having a wonderful time. They’ve got imagination though – and that’s awesome, even with cold legs and feet.
