At Work

Ya Ya's teacher mentioned what a meticulous, hard worker Ya Ya is when I met with her at conferences on Monday.  It's true.  She definitely works at a painstaking pace, making sure everything is just so.  This is very different from how I worked in first and second grade.  I zipped through things and was often prodded to go back and finish them.  My handwriting was always on the borderline of being considered sloppy.  I didn't often include details.

In addition to a small pile of homework this week, Ya Ya has been tweaking her entries for the PTA contest at school, which we had to have in to the school office by today.  The theme of the contest was "Beauty is . . . "

Ya Ya wrote a story entitled:  "Beauty is a Princess who Doesn't have to Eat her Peas."  The story was about a princess who didn't like to eat vegetables and in the end managed to not have to eat them.  The climax to the story was when the Queen brought the princess a peanut butter cake to replace the vegetables.

She also spent many hours creating a detailed drawing of pirates with lots of dialog bubbles.  Dialog bubbles are THE thing lately.  The title of the drawing was "Beauty is Kindness"  Half of the pirates were sharing shirts and pizza with everyone.  The other half of the pirates were greedy and still learning to be kind.

It could be parental pride, mommy goggles, and the like.  But I am a bit suspicious that my eldest kidlet thinks a little outside of the box.  I love that about her.
