Junk Thief

In addition to swiping all of the cardboard boxes we have around our house, Sarah has begun to sneak treasures out of our recycling stash. She created this lovely sculpture yesterday afternoon. It was entirely her idea, and she was ever so thrilled with how it turned out.

I have what I call “The Junk Box” in kindergarten. It has a little bit of every kind of treasure…buttons, beads, shells, marbles, pop caps, beer caps (I know…but they are so shiny and metally), smooth rocks, pastas, candles, you name it. It is one of the most popular items in kindergarten. It is sensory and stimulating.
I am also a big fan of making art out of garbage. I like to stand in front of the recycle goods and think, what can we make today. I like to string toilet paper rolls on a long string and the kids love to paint snakes, tales, everything. I like to use the bottom of a variety of bottles as stamps. So, I am impressed with Sarah and her love of junk.
