A Request

Mr. Sneaky Pants hates looking at pictures of himself as a baby. Today I gave him and Sarah some photo books to look at while I was attempting to cook lunch. My goal was to keep them busy and out of the kitchen. In one of the books Mr. Sneaky Pants was a baby. In the other he hadn’t quite been born yet. To quell his anger at being a baby in the first photo book I suggested they look at the second book. After a few pages, Mr. Sneaky Pants asked indignantly, “Just where am I, Mom?” So I explained that he was still in my tummy when the pictures were taken, and that Sarah was his size. He did NOT like this idea at all. Sarah couldn’t be his size because she was Sarah-size. And he was very, very disturbed by the idea that he was inside my tummy.

Hours later I was working in my office and he was drawing “Africa and some animals that live in Africa and fly helicopters” on a piece of paper at the writing table. He turned and looked and me and said, “Hey Mom, don’t put me back in your tummy, OK? I wouldn’t like that.”

Neither would I, my friends. Neither would I.
