A Few Noteworthy Children’s Books

One of the most hilarious children’s picture books I’ve read for a long time isLittle Pea by Amy Krouse Rosenthal. Our whole family loves it! The pictures are simple and vivid, and the use of word choice is outstanding. You need to locate this and read it!

Ms. Crazy Preschooler and I finished reading The Talented Clementine by Sara Pennypacker. It was so funny that I was absolutely giggling out loud in places and Ms. CP had to stop and reprimand me to keep reading. The protagonist gets herself into some of the most unique situations. This book has terrific voice, which I think is what makes it so humorous. It’s a litlte on the lines of Junie B. Jones, but much more sophisticated. I loved the illustrations. The author and illustrator have another Clementine book out that preceeded this one, and I’ll be seeking it out, even though this one did incorporate some cheesy moments.

Yesterday we read Roald Dahl’s The Twits. Ms. Crazy Preschooler loves anything by this author, it seems, even though they seem a bit edgy. In Dahl’s typical over the top fashion, this book is filled with wonderful descriptions and absurd characters with a wildly twisting and adventurous plot.
