Look Who Can Ride a Bike All on His Own!

While the big kids and I were off on our long bike adventure last weekend, it was discovered that Mr. Trouble on Feet can ride a bike all by himself too!  No training wheels.  No assistance of any sort, actually.  Dr. Peds helped him get up on this old bike that used to belong to Mr. SP, and he just pedaled away.  We are now 100% sold on the concept of balance bikes.

My cautious boy is still careful, and after a few times up and down the street he asked to take a little rest.  The bike IS big, and he IS little.  Plus, his hands were cramping up from a death grip on the handlebars.  He is convinced that his hands hurt because he wasn’t wearing biker gloves, so now whenever he’s ready for a bike ride, he finds his ill fitting helmet (we really do need to remedy that) and his worker gloves, and insists on having someone help him get his fingers in the right compartments.

And they are off!

He couldn’t be prouder of his new skill.  Riding bike is one of his favorite things to do.

I love it! His biking accessories are the best! I’ve heard from multiple parents that balance bikes are fantastic. Perhaps there will be one in our future, as well!

We had such a great time with you guys today! Everyone was so tired by the time we arrived home that we all fell asleep in the car while parked in the driveway. Once we gathered the energy to move into the house, we collapsed on Ella’s bed & slept another hour. Everyone else is still sleeping now. Signs of a very, very good day. I hope you enjoyed the orchard!

So fun to see documented, what a young, talented rider.
We also are balance bike fans, the perks of being child #2 and #3. Careful CS just learned to ride energetic EV’s old standard bike this fall also, at age 4, after a summer on a balance bike. I don’t worry nearly as much as he tackles biking up our big neighborhood hills, as when “concerned about everything around her but her biking” EV learned to ride. Found a good use for all those useless training wheels? (:
