  • The leaves are beautiful this week!  When I read the weather forecast for last weekend:  gale force winds off the Lake and heavy rain, I inwardly groaned, sure that such a combination would blow down all the beautiful maple leaves before I got to enjoy them.  However, because the leaves were not completely turned yet, most of them are actually still up on the trees after days of strong wind and rain!  I plan on enjoying them whenever I can all week long.  We are having a late fall season this year, and that’s OK because we had a late spring and summer as well!
  • Although I have barely been able to get out for a walk in the morning these past few weeks, I have managed to explore four new hiking trails that I had never tried, all of which start less than a mile from my house.  It’s one of the amazing things about where I live:  this endless supply of hiking trails!  You would think I would have tried them all by now, but I’m not even close to having hiked them all!    I haven’t even tried all the trails in my neighborhood.  So many of the trails aren’t even on a map, even though they are very well worn.  I’m grateful that there is so much to still discover.
  • Walking down to check our Little Free Library continues to be a fun part of the day for everyone in the family.   Last week another library popped up not far away!  So exciting!
  • Mr. TOF is fascinated with pee.  I don’t remember Mr. SP paying very much attention to the act of relieving himself, but maybe I’ve just forgotten.  Mr. TOF totally has that little-boy-love-of-peeing-in-new-places.  Going to the bathroom in the forest while on a hike is thrilling!  Doing a little dance next to the potty and spraying pee in all directions is so much fun!  (Unless you have to clean it up). We talked for days about how he accidentally peed on his hand last week.   (Don’t worry, we washed with soap and water.)  Peeing while taking a bath is so interesting.  It’s so fun to aim for new targets.  Gracious sakes.
  • Fresh honeycrisp apples!  I love them!
  • Captain Hook decapitated, with his skull (drilled clear through) hanging from a hook.  Detailed plans for football plays and drills.  Deer carcasses.  Soccer.  Legos.  These are just a few topics of conversation that I’ve had with my boy piano students in the last few weeks.  I have so many boy students these days. They are so fun, and really liven things up.
