The India Drum

Everybody loves this little drum that Auntie Amy Texas brought back from India long before we had kids.  In fact, I think it arrived in our family before we were married, actually.  She gifted it to Dr. Peds, but long ago I started using it with my students.  There is a tart, zippy sound to the unusual drum head that seems to be made of rubber and leather.  It looks different, a little more complicated than most drums, and that intrigues students from the start.  Each kidlet in our family has taken to this heavy little drum as well, claiming it for their own.  Sometimes it goes missing for weeks or even months at a time and I find it stashed in some kid’s secret hiding place because he or she didn’t want anyone else using it.  Much to several people’s consternation, Mr. Trouble on Feet recently discovered the India Drum and spent a morning improvising and singing.  He toted it from room to room in the house, and it kept him busy for a long time.
