A Picture of my Bathroom: In Honor of Potty Training

Bathroom

Four days ago Mr. Perpetual Mess decided that he wanted to wear underwear. For two days straight he begged to go shopping for undewear. On Friday I mentioned that we were out of milk and needed to go grocery shopping. “Good. We get underwear too.” Since the grocery store doesn’t carry toddler boys’ underpants, we ended up going to Target and then the grocery store. When we got home, he wanted to put them on immediately, but I decided to stall until after nap since we were in the middle of very hungry kids and a tired and hungry baby who all needed extreme attention at the same time. Mealtimes are always a zoo.

After nap we tried on a pair. He was ecstatic. At bedtime it was very distressing to put on an overnight pull up, and in the morning the first word out of his mouth was, “UNDERWEAR!” (For the record, he likes the “polkie dot” ones best.)

I’m not sure how long this interest in underwear will last. I’m not exactly sure that he’s ready for potty training. He’s the kind of kid who only does what he sets his mind to do. We’ve had a lot of accidents, but he doesn’t really mind because that only means that he gets to wear a new pair of underware. But I’m happy because he’s happy about underware, at least for the time being.

Obviously, I’ve been spending a lot of time in the bathroom. By the end of the day, I counted that we had read 39 books in that room alone. Uff.
