Sweet Surprise

Yesterday was our wedding anniversery. I don’t know what it is about our wedding anniversery, but for some reason BOTH of us have trouble remembering that it is on the twenty second of May and not the twenty third or twenty fourth. And throughout the last eight years, we’ve actually had to spend a lot of anniverseries apart for one reason or another. Luckily, we’re pretty low key about things like that. I was hanging out on the futon yesterday afternoon while the two smallest monsters were napping. The house was quiet, and I about jumped out of my skin when the loud front doorbell rang. It plays a jaunty little tune that about knocks me sideways every time anyone rings the front bell. I zipped to the door and a very strange little flower delivery guy thrust this beautiful vase at me and asked me just what tune my doorbell played. I replied that I really wasn’t quite sure and took the flowers.

Flowers were a big surprise. My husband isn’t really the flower sending type of guy, largely because I am not really a flower receiving type of person. For my senior clarinet recital in college he gave me a cactus garden. I loved it! (He said it fit my prickly mood as I prepared for the recital.) Because we were apart, the flowers seemed especially beautiful. I felt warm and fuzzy. They are resting on the mantle of the fireplace and I am enjoying them a lot.
