What I Learned in June

  • Earthrworms have a life expectancy of 6 years, and while most stay small, some worms randomly grow up to 14 inches long.  That’s a big worm.
  • I love pudding.  I love rich and creamy homemade banana cream pudding with freshly sliced bananas.  I just learned that this fantastic treat is all the more wonderful with fresh, homemade whipped cream.  Yum.
  • To Celebrate Midsummer’s Eve in Medieval France, cats were burned alive by the hundreds in large bonfires in every terrible way you could possibly imagine because of their association with vanity and witchcraft.
  • The moon near the summer solstice used to be called the “mead moon” because honey was plentiful at that time, and because this season was also associated with love and all the sweetness of finding one’s soulmate, this is the origin of the term “honeymoon.”
  • During my many travels through North Dakota, some of my journeys involved driving all by myself for hours, with no one else in the car.  It was actually a treat, even though I don’t relish driving, because when am I ever driving alone without someone else in the car with me?  I learned that I really do enjoy controlling what I’m listening to in the car.  Usually on long drives with kidelts we are listening to audio books, because they keep everyone entertained and happy.  When I’m driving by myself I cherish the opportunity to listen to classical music loud, loud, LOUD.  (It’s the best way to listen to classical music . . . it never was meant to be boring background music, you know).
