Evasive Christmas Letter

I’m about to start draft three of our family Christmas letter. The first one I trashed because it just wasn’t working. The second one I finished and just was about to print it out, but I wasn’t feeling good about it and had my husband read it. His comment summed it up well, “This is kind of like a paper I’d write.” And that, I’m afraid is NOT a good thing. (He used to, and still does sometimes, give me his papers to read and I’d tell him exactly what he needed to do to fix it, but he never believes me . . . and still doesn’t, I don’t think . . . and the result were never good). So I’m scrapping that letter too. I think my big mistake was making a list of what I wanted to say before I started. I’m much more of a rambling writer who cuts out half of what she’s written when she’s done.
