The weather while we were visiting the North Shore was not exactly cooperative. To be precise, it snowed quite a bit of the time, which we didn’t really mind. Hearty people from a cold climate, we just bundled up in our winter attire and went about our business of climbing around on craggy rocks on the shore of Lake Superior. However, one of the days we were blessed with a North Dakota wind, a wind that is fierce enough to suck the air right out of your lungs when you step outside in below-freezing weather. It’s the kind of wind we don’t get in Central Wisconsin and that you forget about until you travel to Minnesota or North Dakota. While I was perfectly fine with this wind, I was not so comfortable taking Miss Squeak out in it. Even though I believe in climitization, it was a bit harsh for a little critter only four weeks old. And Mr. Cuddles refused to wear his mittens, and then complained bitterly in a whiny voice about his cold fingers.

That afternoon Dr. Pediatrician and Ms. Crazy Preschooler went to Duluth to watch some big boats pass into the harbor, and I stayed at the cabin with the two littest people. Miss Squeak had a nap, and Mr. Cuddles and I had a great time playing and having a snack. He has finally started to talk a little bit, and it is so fun. In the last few weeks he has grown up so rapidly. He even holds my hand in the parking lot instead of rushing right into the middle of traffic. It’s quite handy.
