The Banana is Eight

Breakfast in the bathtub:  donuts.  Specifically, the three big kids requested Bavarian Creme donuts.  Mr. TOF wanted a round donut with sprinkles.  Breakfast was followed by a quick present opening session in the dining room, on par with birthday traditions around here.  Dr. Peds had been working and working at the hospital all week and all weekend before The Banana’s birthday on Monday.  He had come home in the middle of the night only to get called back in to the hospital again.  However, he somehow managed to make it home in time for presents before the school bus came, and he brought this fantastic plastic ring with him.  She was honored to wear it.  Mondays are really not the best day to have a birthday around here.  The Banana was away at school all day, and when she came home, I was teaching lessons.  Monday is one of my biggest teaching days.  I did squeeze a couple of pictures of The Banana in her birthday shirt before my students came.

The Banana had requested a trip down the TimberTwister alpine coaster, which Dr. Peds on top of making happen in the afternoon after school.  Homework was finished, and a couple of neighbors were rounded up.  A drive to the other side of town was made, only to discover that fall hours had started and that the TimberTwister was only open on the weekend.  The Banana remained positive, however.  She was still happy about not having to do any practicing or chores at home.

She was, however, thrilled to help Dr. Peds cook her birthday supper:  orzo with blanched vegetables. Delicious.  Lucky for me, it happens to be one of my favorite meals too.

After eating, it was time to bring out the cake I had baked and frosted that morning.  My cake baking skills always make for interesting birthday adventures.  The kidlets noted that this frosting looked a lot like gravy, but tasted a great deal better.  It was a white cake with cream cheese frosting and sprinkles.

By the time the cake came out, the energy was high.  Very high.  The room was buzzing with kids about to get a major sugar fix, and there were a lot of shenanigans.  It was all incredibly silly, and at one point The Banana had a serious case of giggles.
No one was really sure what she was doing with this hand move before she started blowing out the candles.  But everyone was roaring in laughter.
