I have no pictures of the big fire in the pit that started to burn at 4:00 a.m. It was reportedly set a blaze during a pre-morning donut party.  The pig was prepped and wrapped in banana leaves, and lay in it’s steamy grave.  I was happily sleeping through all of this.  Maybe next year.

After the Fourth of July Kid Parade, we were busy with last minute party preparations.  Guests began to arrive, and soon it was time for the pig to come out of the pit.  As always, there was the morbid procession up the hill.  It was ridiculously silly for most, and a little bit revolting for the vegetarians in our midst.  (There are actually a lot of those, and happily, they bring their quinoa and come to the party anyway.).

Pig doctors:  They are real doctors who have a lot of fun getting all the meat out of the pig and onto the platter.  They are fast and funny, and they are happy to carefully show a the skull and teeth to any interested kid that wants to hang out at the end of the table, instructing the tykes all about anatomy as they go.

The vegetarians got a big kick out of the recycled pig bean toss.  We pulled it out of storage from last year.

Tropical attire was worn by many.  There were even some people wearing grass skirts.

After many people had eaten, it was time for the limbo!

As a consolation prize for those who couldn’t quite make it under the lowering bar, I handed kids hula hoops!  Hula time!  Some of those kids had impressive hula skills!  They kept the hoop going for a minute or more!

Mr. Trouble on Feet had been running around like a happy maniac all day.  He loves a party!  He was so incredibly hot and sweaty that at one point Dr. Peds kindly took him behind our neighbor’s house and found a hose to rinse his hair that was already sopping wet from sweat off.  Mr. TOF was grateful to be a little cooler.

Some of our guests brought lawn games.  Washers was a big hit.

From time to time random dads sacrificed their children to the reduced version of the volcano, in hopes of future good parties.
Several people stayed past dark, watching the big fire work display down on the lake through the tops of the trees.  It was a successful night.
