Stable Cat
A few years ago my mom gifted me the nativity set that my Grandma Edna made her. When I was growing up, the nativity set had a special place at Christmas time on a little cabinet in our kitchen that we called the dry sink. We stood on tiptoe and gazed at the scene on display. I have so many childhood Christmas memories tied up in this nativity set, and I’m so happy to unwrap it each year and set it out.
I love that most of the pieces were crafted by my grandmother, who crafts like me: haphazardly.
There are some really unusual pieces in this nativity set. It is truly unique. One of my favorite pieces is the addition of a teensy, tiny cat. Of course a barn needs a cat, right? Every year when I unpack the pieces I am worried that I have somehow misplaced the cat, but that little feline always appears at the last second and gets a special spot next to the manger.
