A Week of Disarray
We have waited years to tear out the carpet in our family room and put new flooring in. We debated for years about what kind of flooring to install: Tile? Wood? A mixture? A few months ago we decided it was time for action. The carpet in that room was so terribly disgusting. We’ve been hating on it for years. We had a local company that works with wood floors take a look, and they said that they could indeed make the floor hardwood, even though below the carpet was just a cement slab. While we were at it, we decided to have them redo the hallway upstairs and my office, where we had torn out carpet a few years ago. In the meantime we had been living with floors that I don’t think had ever been refinished in our house’s almost 93 year old history.
A few days ago we got a call from the flooring company that they were coming to work this week, which ended up being the best possible scenario around here because it is a break week from school. Two kids were spending time with grandma. Two kids were very busy with activities, and I did not have many students coming. We got to work removing everything from the office and family room, and removed the icky carpet.
The floors are almost all done (except for a bit of tile that needs to be laid in the family room along with one last finishing coat down there). Even though it’s been a week of living in chaos because stuff is all over every place that isn’t being worked on, I am so excited about the new floors. Just walking to the bathroom makes me feel joyous. I’m especially looking forward to putting everything back in the next few days.
In this week away from many of my normal responsibilities, I did not clean my house, get my taxes done, and catch up on a bunch of tasks like I normally would because I couldn’t find or get to most of the things I would need to accomplish those things. But, I did manage to read almost six books! It will all work out in the end.
