A Christmas Parfait

For days The Banana had been talking about how thought that it would be a really fun Christmas Eve activity to take a Christmas cookie and pile it with as much whipped cream as possible and then bite into it. I kind of just ignored these discussions, but on the afternoon of Christmas Eve, which was the coldest day of winter so far, coming on the tail of our first blizzard of the season, she walked all the way to the grocery store to do some Christmas shopping for her siblings and also came back with two cans of Reddi Whip.

After we were done eating on Christmas Eve, she asked if I would make Christmas cookies. Of course, I had already made Christmas cookies several times over, but around here, they only last a matter of hours and so there were no cookies left for Christmas Eve. I wasn’t opposed to making more because it was Christmas, of course. However, in conjunction with the many other disasters that had already taken place on Christmas Eve (what a doozy of a day!) I was, in fact, plumb clear out of an important main ingredient. I substituted and forged on, but the cookies didn’t have the right texture at all when they came out of the oven. So instead of piling the whipped cream onto the cookie, we suggested making a parfait from the cookie crumbs in a fancy dish from our wedding. The Banana was all over this, and created a magnificent looking desert in no time flat. Since it was too hard to take a giant bite out of, she opted for face smashing instead.
