Picture Books are for Everyone
Recently Dr. Peds was sitting on the futon in the family room, and I was sitting on the giant bean bag, the library tote bag next to me filled with children’s picture books that I had requested on hold. Dr. Peds looked up from his phone.
“What are you doing?”
“I’m just reading these picture books.”
“Why do you have a stack of picture books from the library? We don’t even have little kids right now?” he asked incredulously.
“Well, I like to keep up with interesting picture books I find on book lists, or that win awards, or maybe they are written by an author I particularly like. When I see something on a list that looks interesting I try to check it out at the library,” I explained.
“You mean you are 45 years old and you actually check out stacks of children’s picture books from the library for yourself?”
“Absolutely! Picture books are for everyone!”
