Cutting Down the Christmas Trees

YaYa and The Devious Snail are far and away, and Mr. Trouble on Feet had a choir rehearsal on the day of the Christmas Tree Cut, so that left two parents, The Banana, and Peanut Maximus to get the job done. We had a terrific time. We dropped Mr. TOF off at his rehearsal, stopped at Quik Trip for gas (and some people purchased snacks), and then headed to the forest where the the Christmas Tree cut is located.
There was only a light dusting of snow, and the weather was the warmest it has ever been on Christmas Tree Cutting Day. We brought the stroller along for Peanut Maximus to make things easy.
Anti-climatcily, we found a perfect first tree literally 200 feet down the trail from the entrance. It was kind of crazy, but it was a great tree, so we said, why not?
The second tree took longer to find. The Banana climbed a tree to get a better lookout. Or maybe she just climbed the tree for fun. In fact, it was tremendous fun, and she stayed up there a long time. The rest of us wandered down the trail quite a way before we realized that she was not actually following us, so Peanut Maximus and I headed backward to find her still up in the tree.

By that time, Dr. Peds had located the second tree and chopped it down himself with his handy ax. The Banana got to dramatically trim off some of the lower branches, however.

The Banana makes me laugh every day. This day was not an exception.

I made her stop when she walked through a beautiful pocket of light. She thought I was crazy.

Peanut Maximus had the best time wandering around while Dr. Peds and The Banana loaded the trees in the vehicle. He also liked having a sip of hot cocoa.

Our trees aren’t actually up and decorated yet, because we are slow and have been very busy, but that is OK. I am anticipating that a small toddler is going to find them utterly irresistible to touch, pull and dismantle. A shorter tree season is maybe for the best.

I love the tradition you have of going and chopping down your Christmas trees. Even better I love the story of explaining the exciting adventure you all have. The timing of God to shine the light just right for picture.
