Storyteller

This week The Banana has turned into a foreign language expert.  She walks around babbling in languages that she spontaneously makes up.  It drives Ya Ya and Mr. SP nuts.  She tells stories that are half in English and half in unidentified foreign languages, which use a lot of alliteration and rhyme in completely nonsensical fashion.  She flounces around the house singing in foreign languages.  All of this is delivered with DRAMA and EMOTION.

The Banana has written several stories that she dictated to me as I typed on my computer this week.  I have to piece things together around all that foreign language I can’t understand.  She’s also been busy making up stories with the storyteller cards.  The other night she got ahold of two storyteller card boxes and mixed them together to create one amazing and very, very long story.  Emphasis on very long.  Luckily for me, Ya Ya happily sorted the cards back into the boxes they belonged in.  The whole floor was covered in story cards lined up just so.

I actually kind of remember being fascinated with foreign languages when I was a preschooler.  I have the feeling I spent a lot of time babbling in unidentifiable syllables just like The Banana, because I can remember people telling me to speak in regular English a lot.  I also have some tapes that my grandma recorded when I was a little girl and she was always telling me nicely not to speak in Chinese, or whatever language I claimed to be using that day.
