Warm Art

I recently spotted an art project on a preschool classroom blog that I really wanted to try with the kidlets.  They had a warming tray with paper on it, and let the kids color with crayons as the wax melted onto the paper.  I don’t have a warming tray or an electric frying pan, but I suspected that I might be able to rig something up on our flat top stove (I LOVE flat top stoves even though my expert chef husband doesn’t).  I turned the largest burner down as low as possible, stuck paper in a rusty and crusty cakepan, and we smeared away.  It was seriously addicting, barely pressing down on the crayons that slid and slipped on the paper in the most satisfying way.  The colors on the paper turned out brilliant and bold.  We all wanted to keep creating all evening, but alas, Squirmy was hungry and the stove needed to be repurposed back to its regularly scheduled activities.

On the bottom left you can view The Banana’s “octopus with curly hair” and next to it Mr. SP’s “caves.”

Oh this sounds so fun. I will have to get my grill out and try it. I have a friend that has a daycare and at work we have a daycare may have to pass this idea on. All the pictures are just great.
