The Banana Creates

Inspired by the new windows in my office, Dr. Peds and I decided to do a little rearranging with the writing/art space for the kidlets.  We moved out our old kitchen table that served as the writing table, and Dr. Peds found a more narrow table that fit against the other wall.  It's hard to explain, but the important piece of information is that before we could only fit two kidlets at the art table at a time.  (That was often problematic) and now, when we brought up a kid sized school desk that we found at an awesome garage sale over the summer, completely refinished and beautiful, (we snatched it up in a jiffy) we can fit all three kidlets right in a row, surrounded by art supplies and writing materials of all kinds.

The kid-sized desk is just a hair shorter than the writing table, and while all of the kidlets fit at it nicely and like it, the desk has sort of become the domain of The Banana, as I suspected it might.  She is so thrilled to sit there and work while I check something quick at my computer, and while her big counterparts work on their own projects.

Over the past few months she has become absolutely enraptured with glue.  She loves glue sticks.  She loves squeezable school glue that she can smear around.  I try to keep a steady supply of yarn pieces, tiny paper scraps, sequins and buttons for her to glue on cardboard and paper.  It makes her a happy little person.

And it's been quite fun, because along with mastering potty training in ONE day, with only ONE accident (woohoo!) The Banana has had a major explosion in language development.  Her vocabulary has expounded exponentially, and she is now able to put words together to explain to me WHAT exactly it is she is writing or building.  It is fascinating and heartwarming, and I completely love it.

This, for example, is a horse.  Who knew?
