The Banana: Officially Two

Happy Birthday to The Banana!  We've had a marathon two-day celebration for our stout little tyke's second birthday.  Last night we were fortunate to be able throw the main birthday party on the eve of The Banana's actual birthday, and we were able to celebrate with Grandma Kathy, who was visiting and left to drive back to North Dakota this morning.  We had cake, and lots of wild ruckus, along with the usual present opening.

The Banana was thrilled about the prospect of ice cream cake,  until we set it on fire, which caused her to become a bit apprehensive.

The closer the cake came, the more terror she expressed.

But don't worry, the crying subsided as soon as she had some cake on a well-lit plate in front of her.  She blissfully even shared some with Grammie.

Dr. Peds is becoming quite the balloon artist.  In the spirit of a lively party, he created poodles, swords, and giraffes for the kidlets to play with at the table.  He even whipped up this terrific party hat for Gramma Kathy.

This morning we were all up early to enjoy breakfast in the bathtub (bananas and toast) before Sarah was off to school and Dr. Peds was off to work.  The grown-ups just ate in the bathroom, as space in the bathtub is getting smaller every year because the kidlets keep growing.

The Banana had lots of high tension "help" opening her presents, and she truly loved all of them and played with them all day today.  However, there was one special present that stuck out above all the rest.  Our babysitter, Sophie, who takes care of the kidlets while I'm teaching lessons gave her a special set of dress up shoes.  When The Banana opened it, I thought, "OF COURSE!"  I couldn't believe I hadn't thought of it myself!  The sparkly princess shoes were particularly significant because whenever the dress up box comes out, The Banana goes right for the shoes, much to her big sister's aggravation.  The shoes in the dress up box technically belong to Sarah, and she does not want them scuffed up, stomped in or abused in any fashion.  And she creates quite a fuss about it.  All day long today, The Banana has happily been tromping around in her very own pair of plastic shoes.

Here are just a few pictures of the birthday girl playing outside this afternoon in her birthday tutu and special T-shirt from Gramma Kathy. This evening Auntie Dot arrived just in time for supper and a second round of cake, without the scary candles.
