Three of My Favorite Parts of the Second Wedding

I kind of felt like Cinderella for the day, because my job at Dorothy’s wedding was to take pictures of everything.  Dorothy told me I had free license to take whatever pictures I wanted for the whole entire day, which meant that I could be her personal paparazzi, and she does happen to be one of my favorite people to take pictures of.  It was so much fun to follow her around and snap my shutter!  The best part of all was that no one yelled at me for taking too many pictures all day long.  Whenever someone started to grump at me and my trusty camera, all I had to do was say that Dorothy told me I was supposed to be taking the picture, and they’d cooperate so very nicely!

I took so very many photographs that I’m now just finally getting through them all.  There are obviously way too many to share, and I’m having a terrible time picking out which ones I should post here, so I’ve decided that the best way to go about it would be for me to tell and show you my favorite parts of the wedding day in one post, and then in another post show you some of my favorite story-telling images that might not necessarily be fantastic in and of themselves, but are special because of what was happening.  I might even do one last post of my very favorite images of the day, too.

First of all, Dorothy’s wedding was a simple marriage ceremony that took place at the end of the regular Sunday morning church service.  She did not wear a veil, and I was completely smitten with the idea that she in my mother-in-law came up with for her hair:  a wreath made of tiny purple flowers, baby’s breath, and greenery.  It looked so sweet.  It was perfect for the relaxed, casual atmosphere, and perfect for Dot’s curly brown hair.

My brother-in-law Bryan is talented in music in the exact opposite way I am: he is amazing and creating and improvising music and understanding chords and how they progress. He played special music during church before the marriage ceremony and it was so beautiful. The music was so special to me that I only snapped but two pictures before I was literally weeping so much I couldn’t take any more pictures.

Dorothy and Don like pie a lot better than cake, so that is what was served at the recepetion (which was a picnic at the same park as Greg and my wedding). Most of the pie, except for some blueberry pie that my mother-in-law made, came from Tower City. I ate a slice of banana cream pie, and it was truly the most amazing banana cream pie I’ve ever had. I still stand firm in attesting that my own mother makes the best pie on the face of the earth, but this was some amazing banana cream pie. I couldn’t believe that I drove past Tower City to teach in Mapleton and Fingal for an entire year, and no one ever told me about Tower City Pie! Good grief. I even taught in the Maple Valley School District, which is centered in Tower City, and no one ever mentioned pie once. I may make banana cream pie from Tower City one of my little rituals whenever we travel to Valley City from now on.
