As if a Sidewalk were Not Enough

Sarah went shopping today with Dr. Peds because now that she’s six, she’s finally outgrown the toddler bike helmet I purchased for her when she was 9 months old. (The child has inherited my small, yet deliciously dense head). While they were out, she mentioned to him that there is just no good place to learn to ride a bike in this town. This is, unfortunately true, since the whole city is built on a hill, a steep hill, and the sidewalks are not in good shape . . . nor the streets for that matter.

Then she said, “But I have an idea, Dad. We can dig up the grass and make an asphalt bike path around our house in a circle, and we could ride bike around and around the house. Mom would love it because we’d be able to ride all the time, and we’d be perfectly safe! She could just watch out the window.”
