The new Bunkbeds

If you look carefully, you will find the resident toddler sleeping somewhere in that mess of blankets.

These bunk beds went up about two weeks ago, much to Mr. Trouble on Feet’s extreme excitement.  He was so happy to move into a room with Mr. Sneaky Pants, and absolutely thrilled to start sleeping in a bed.  This makes a lot of sense, of course, since he likes being a part of what all the big people are doing, and beds are comfortable.  They are a lot more comfortable than a rickety old pack and play, which is what he had been sleeping in for the past two years.  The pack and play worked because it fit perfectly into a little corner of my room, and although my cautious boy grew and grew, he never once tried to climb out of that pack and play.

It was time for a new arrangement, however, even though the other one was working fine by most standards.  We needed to do a bit of an overhaul on Mr. SP’s room and the timing was right to move the two of them together.  Dr. Peds ordered and constructed these bunk beds, and Mr. TOF never looked back.  I kept the pack and play up for days thinking I would need to use it occasionally, but my little guy was so happy about his new accommodations, he never once unnecessarily  got out of his bed at night or nap.  He has made a point of showing every person who has visited our house his new bed.  He loves that Mr. SP is up and he is down, and Mr. SP has been gracious about the transition as well.

So, something that I had been dreading for years went out without a hitch.  I am the person that had the most trouble with the switch!  Mr. TOF has been in my room for almost three years, and my room felt empty.  And I felt really sad!  I really missed walking in at midnight to my little buddy breathing heavily in the corner.  In fact, for several days Dr. Peds and I found ourselves moving silently in the dark at night and whispering oh so very quietly and then we’d look at each other and remember no one else was in the room and giggle.

There are some great things about having my bedroom back, other than the obvious fact that I have a lot more space in there again.  I have my dresser back!  Half of my dresser had been related to tiny person clothes for years, and now I no longer have piles of my clothes sitting in the corner.  Also, our room doesn’t smell like stale wet diaper all night anymore.  I can turn on a light whenever I want, and random child related items are not strewn about all the time, so it kind of feels like a little sanctuary.  Now if my amazing and wonderful husband would just fold his laundry piles all over the floor, we’d really be in business!
