Art Institute Family Day

We love going to the Art Institute’s family art day.  It’s such a fun place to create in, with huge windows and floors and surfaces that can get wonderfully messy.  It’s so fun to watch the materials on hand being transformed into so many unique creations, and its a place where all the big kids can spread out and do whatever they want while we are there without any direct supervision.  Mr. TOF, of course requires some direct supervision, but his day of independent art making will come, and in the meantime, I will just enjoy following that busy boy around and getting messy.

The clay table is almost always the favorite in our family, and sure enough, The Banana and Mr. SP headed there first.  Mr. SP made an amazing dragon, which I will have to take a picture of yet.  The Banana spent almost an hour working on a whole collection of animals:  a dolphin, elephant, cat, dog, and many others.  Mr. TOF made a blob with a lot of textures, I made a butterfly. YaYa made a bowl.

We all made wool felted butterflies.  This was Mr. TOF’s very favorite thing, and for good reason.  He LOVED pounding on the bag with the felt and soapy water.  He gleefully picked out a bag with some blue felt, and had the best time mutilating that thing.  He proudly carries the finished product with him everywhere and calls it his “blue.”

Mr. TOF was also more than slightly happy to be running the glue while creating a crazy collage.

The Banana and I had a lot of fun painting.  Mr. TOF, Dr. Peds and Mr. SP also made some great artwork at the watercolor table.

YaYa and Mr. SP worked and worked at this table making intricate mobiles.  A lot of time and details went into these creations.
