Sunday Night at the Beach: Part 1

This image is actually from a few weeks ago now, and sadly even though my goal is to get to the beach as often as I can on Sunday nights, we haven’t been back the past two Sunday nights  because of our trip to Voyageurs and the intermittent thunderstorms that were gracing us with their presence last night.  (I do love cracking thunder!) We did make it to the Sandy Beach last week in the evening to try out Auntie Dot’s new paddleboard, but that’s a different story.

We started our summer Sunday Night at the beach series out on a beautiful day the first Sunday in June, before the kids were actually even out of school.  It felt summery that day though, a twinkling day of warmth amid countless days of gloom that were our every day normal this spring.  We called up our neighbors at the top of the hill and met them down at the rocky beach for a picnic supper.  The grown ups chatted while the sun sank lower.  The kidlets climbed and played around on the rocks.  The air was still and warm, until the wind shifted just a bit and came off the lake, dropping the air temperature more than 15 degrees, and sending us shivering to our cars, which was good in the end anyway, since we had to get people tucked in beds so they could rise early for school the next day.
