Mess of the Week: The Sky Blue Edition

I don’t actually have any images to go with this story, because, quite frankly it was such an emergency situation that Dr. Peds and I both were in a full fledged state of panic.  Getting the camera never even crossed my mind.

Last Sunday we came home from church.  I offered to make pancakes with fresh peach slices and whipped cream, so we could use up the last of our peach stash.  While I was cooking, Dr. Peds took The Banana and ran quickly to the hardware store to pick up a few items.  I was halfway through cooking up all the pancake batter, when I realized that the whipping cream I had just made was rancid.  Ish. I threw it out, and when Dr. Peds came in the door I said, “I’m really sorry.  The whipped cream was bad.  Can you run back out and go to the store to get another?”

He set the paper bag of supplies on the counter and looked in the sink at my discarded whipped cream.  He looked up, over near the door and loudly exclaimed, “OH!”

My eyes traveled toward the sliding glass patio door, where The Banana was coming in.  Dr. Peds rushed over, and it took a few moments before I realized that The Banana had accidentally dropped a quart of sky blue interior paint into the door frame.  The whole quart.  We stood staring at it, not even knowing how to start.

Pretty soon the kidlets were peering down at the sky blue puddle as well, which caused us to loudly shoo them into the other room, far away from the source of the paint that we could just envision them tracking over the entire house.  I ran downstairs and got a role a industrial paper towels that Dr. Peds uses for projects.  I don’t ever buy paper towels because I hate them with a passion and believe they are a waste of money.  However, I was very glad there were a few rolls in the house on Sunday.  Dr. Peds was sopping up paint and more paint.

Then!  Pancakes!  Burning pancakes!  I ran into the kitchen.

Then!  Kidlets!  Sneaky kidlets trying to get close to see what the commotion was about.   I manhandled them back to another part of the house.

Then!  Paint!  Paint!  How could I help?

I was scurrying around like a madwomen.  Dr. Peds was covered in sky blue interior paint.  Thankfully, we were able to keep it from leaking inside the house, and eventually got most of the liquid sopped up.  Dr. Peds flushed more out with a garden hose, and then tried sucking up the water with a shot vac.  I’m telling you, it was a lengthy process.  The paint leaked outside onto the sidewalk.  The patio door screen sort of came out of it’s track.  Eventually we got it all squared away.  The door frame is still streaked with sky blue, but we are pretty sure in a few days the dirt will cover most of that up.  There’s never a lack of dirt around here.

We did eat pancakes and peaches.  We never did get to the store to get more whipped cream.  I was grumpy so I didn’t even take out the syrup.  All the commotion  caused me to take a long afternoon nap on Sunday, due to  emotional and mental exhaustion.

Rest.  It solves so much.
