Sunday Night at the Beach: The Last Trip Before School

The most cooperative child got to choose which beach to visit on the Sunday before Labor Day.  It was an especially nice night because we were not working around youth group or soccer practice.  Dr. Peds was working.  YaYa declined participation.  But the rest of us headed for the sandy beach.  I knew whichever child ended up being the most cooperative would probably choose the sandy beach because we hadn’t been there for a few weeks, and it was a warm day, good for swimming.  The beach was pretty crowded.  A lot of other people had the same idea.

The kidlets played battleship with floating logs.

I brought a book to read!  I actually have never brought a book to read at the beach before.  I was near the end of a novel I had been working on all day, and I decided to continue reading.  There aren’t as many images as you might expect because . . . I was reading.  I have a hard time pulling my nose out of a story.

We stayed until dark.

I got bit by a couple of nasty horseflies because the wind was faced the wrong direction, and when that happens at the sandy beach, horseflies have fun.  Unfortunately I sometimes react badly to bites, and the next day I had a couple of very large swollen spots on my legs.

Other than that, it was an excellent, relaxing night.
