2024 Sunday Night at the Beach: Edition 1

First of all, let me just say that I am so very glad that this summer we are out of the rock eating phase and into the rock throwing phase! I am predicting Sunday Night at the Beach to be much less stressful this summer!

For our first Sunday Night at the Beach this season we zipped down to the Secret Beach. The big kidlets carried Peanut Maximus down the trail to the beach, and I just carried my backpack. Hooray! The second we arrived Peanut Maximus started throwing rocks into the water. He stood there for so, so long throwing rocks into the water. Then he realized he could sit down and throw rocks in the water. It went on and on.

The Banana tried to get in his business and annoy him (because there is no sibling his own size to annoy him, and life without annoying siblings wouldn’t be a full life, right?) He was not having it! Do not interrupt the rock throwing! There was scowling, grouching, and screeching. Finally she moved on and he was back to peacefully throwing those rocks.

Then he discovered sticks, which were almost as good as rocks! He threw them in the water and begged his sister to retrieve them. She gave up that task and decided to do some reading for her German class. It’s the end of school and there is so, so much homework stacking up around here.

Eventually Peanut Maximus started to explore a little bit to search for great sticks. The Banana and Mr. TOF collected a little seaglass. Then The Banana challenged Mr. TOF to swim out into the lake to retrieve a stick that had been floating out for a bit for a reward of 1 measuring cup of Sprite. Mr. TOF decided he would do it. He got his swim gear all ready to go and then literally stood on the shore looking at the stick floating out farther and farther in the cold water for at least ten minutes. Finally he jumped in and swam out to get it, winning the award of the first sibling to submerge in the Lake for the Sunday Night at the Beach season. (The Banana has actually been jumping in multiple times each month all throughout the fall, winter and spring, but it wasn’t Sunday Night at the Beach, of course).
